TINFO Scholars

Scholarships, bursaries and educational grants for promising and underserved students across Africa. Applications open on the Foundation launch day and are assessed by an independent selection panel.

Awards

What a scholarship covers

Tuition support

Full or partial school fees for the academic year, paid directly to the school.

Learning materials

Books, stationery, examination fees and, where a course requires it, a laptop or tablet.

Bursaries

Smaller hardship grants for pupils at risk of dropping out mid-year.

Educational grants

Targeted grants for technical training, certifications and university preparation.

Mentorship

Each scholar is matched with a mentor from the diaspora professional network.

Renewal

Awards may be renewed each year on satisfactory academic progress and school report.

Eligibility

Who can apply

01 Enrolled or admitted pupils Applicants must be enrolled in, or hold an offer from, a primary, secondary, technical or tertiary institution in Africa.
02 Demonstrated need Priority goes to households that cannot meet fees without support, and to pupils at risk of leaving school.
03 Academic promise or determination Strong results help, but consistent effort and a supporting statement from a teacher carry equal weight.
04 A supporting school Applications are countersigned by the school. AfricaSDA member schools may nominate candidates directly.
05 One award per applicant A pupil may hold one TINFO Scholars award at a time; renewals are handled separately.
Process

How to apply

01 Open the application From 13 February 2027 the application form is published on this page, in English and French.
02 Submit documents Latest school report, admission or enrolment letter, a teacher reference and a short statement from the applicant.
03 School countersignature The school confirms enrolment, fees payable and the pupil standing.
04 Panel review An independent panel of educators reviews applications in cycles and may request a short interview.
05 Award and payment Successful applicants are notified in writing; funds go directly to the school, with materials issued to the pupil.
06 Reporting Scholars send a short end-of-year report; schools confirm attendance and results.
Calendar

Application cycle

13 February 2027

Applications open on the Foundation launch day and remain open for the first cycle.

Cycle review

Applications are reviewed in cycles; the panel meets after each cycle closes.

Notification

Every applicant receives a written decision, whether or not an award is made.

Academic year start

Awards are paid to schools in time for the term for which they were granted.

Until 13 February 2027 you can register your interest and we will send the form and document checklist the day applications open. Schools may register on behalf of several pupils.

Fund a scholar

A single award keeps a pupil in school for a year. Sponsors may fund one scholar, a cohort, or an award in a family name.
